Hiljemark is no stranger to Italian football, as he has amassed plenty of experience in the Serie A as a midfielder with Palermo and Genoa from 2015 to 2019.

He brought down the curtain on his career in Aalborg in 2021 and immediately went into management as an assistant, then took charge in March 2023.
