Andre Ayew signs a one-year contract in Breda, where he joins the likes of former Spurs and Schalke midfielder Lewis Holtby, with an option to extend for another year.

The 36-year-old had been a free agent since his contract at French side Le Havre expired this past summer. Since then, Ayew has worked to maintain his fitness at second-tier Ghanaian club Nania FC, which is owned by his father, former two-time African Player of the Year Abedi Pele.

Before his two seasons at Le Havre, Ayew played for a slew of clubs, including (then-)Premier League sides Nottingham Forest, West Ham United, and Swansea City. He spent most of his career at Olympique Marseille, where he played 209 games between 2007 and 2015.

"I am someone who loves challenges, both personally and as part of a team. That's what I find here at NAC," Ayew said on NAC's website.

"I want to do everything I can to help the club and my teammates. We are in a situation where only staying in the Eredivisie counts. In that respect, the mental aspect is perhaps the most important thing. Together with our supporters, we must give this battle our all in the second half of the season."

Ayew, whose brother Jordan currently plays for Championship outfit Leicester City, is the all-time record holder in caps for the Ghanaian national team, playing 120 games for the Black Stars and scoring 24 goals, three of which came at the 2014 and 2022 FIFA World Cups.

The experienced forward joins NAC Breda in a tough period, with the club sitting at the bottom of the table during the winter break with 13 points from 17 games.

"André is keen to help NAC in their fight for survival," technical director Peter Maas said about Ayew.

"That has become very clear from our discussions. We are currently in a difficult position with NAC. Ayew has also faced tough challenges in his career. He is a true sportsman who takes good care of himself. We believe that his experience and specific qualities could be of great value to NAC, especially now."

Ayew joins NAC Breda on January 2nd, when the club resume their training duties following the winter break.
